Today’s lecture was presented by colloquium co-professor Kathleen Buckwalter, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor Emerita of Gerontological Nursing Co-Director, National Health Law and Policy Resource Center University of Iowa College of Nursing and College of Law. Dr. Buckwalter presented an overview of the medical issues relating to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. She explained the physiological causes of dementias; the various types of dementias; the pyhsical, behavioral, and other symptoms of dementias at various stages; and approaches to care for individuals with dementias. Her lecture provided a clinical perspective and laid a foundation for understanding the disease.
